4.Medical Lasers and Special Fibers
Modern surgeries are getting better with less pain and faster healing. We use special fibers made of a material called fused silica. These fibers help lasers reach tricky spots inside our bodies for treatment.
5.Making Computer Chips with Silica
To make computer chips, we use a process called microlithography. It’s like taking a very tiny photo on a surface that will later become part of a computer chip. We need very clear images to make the smallest parts of the chip. We use a special light called ArF excimer laser for this job.
We choose synthetic fused silica because it works well with our special lights and doesn’t break easily. It also keeps the light from bending too much, which helps make the chips better.

6.Fusion Power and Silica
Fusion power is like making a tiny sun inside a machine. It could give us lots of energy. To do this, we heat special gases to very high temperatures. Keeping this process going is tough.
We need to watch the process closely, so we use special windows on the machine. These windows need to be very strong and let us see the light in many colors. Synthetic fused silica is the best material for these windows.
